The Building and Construction Authority, Singapore has come up with a set of guidelines for welding filler metal (electrodes and wire) to ensure the quality of welding is not compromised in Singapore’s building structures. Below is the highlighted portion with regards to welding filler metal requirements.
BCA BC1:2012 Design Guide on Use of Alternative Structural Steel
The actual performance and compliance of the steel materials with the nominal specifications stipulated in their respective national standards and material performance requirements from Section 2 (Please refer to BCA BC:2012 Guide Section 2.7) shall be substantiated by a quality assurance system acceptable to BCA.
The welding filler metal manufacturer shall establish, document and maintain a factory production control (FPC) system to ensure the conformity of the products to the nominal specifications.
Yawata Electrode (Thailand) Co Ltd has successfully obtained the Factory Production Control (FPC) Certificate in compliance to “The Building and Construction Authority, Singapore” in year 2020.
Further technical welding requirements listed by BCA Singapore:
The nominal yield strength of the all-weld metal shall be in the range of 355 N/mm2 to 690 N/mm2. The elongation after fracture of the all-weld metal on proportional gauge length of 5 times the specimen diameter shall be at least 15 %..As a minimum, the all-weld metal shall be able to absorb at least 27 J of impact energy at 20 °C.
Yawata electrodes and wires complies to both the FPC and mechanical properties requirements by BCA and can be used for structural steel fabrication projects under BCA scope. Do feel free to contact our representative to understand more on the requirements.
